Mississippi Baptist Medical Center (MBMC), Jackson’s first hospital, was opened as a clinic by two doctors in 1908. Today, more than 100 years later on the same site in downtown Jackson, our modern facilities include the Baptist Cancer Center and a six-level tower housing the Cardiovascular Center and Baptist for Women. In 2017, MBMC became a part of the Baptist Memorial Health Care system, creating one of the largest not-for-profit health care systems in the country.

Visitor Information

As a patient, you have the right to have designated visitors and/or a designated support person present such as a spouse, a domestic partner, another family member, or a friend. All visitors designated by you shall enjoy visitation privileges that are similar to those your immediate family members would enjoy.

On the other hand, if you would like to limit your number of visitors, this can be arranged when you are admitted. You also have the right to deny or withdraw your consent to accept visitors at any time.

Your nurse or physician will let you know if having a support person or visitor may be restricted to provide safe care to you or other patients. The reasons for any restrictions should be explained to you.

All exterior doors are locked at 9:00 p.m. Anyone entering or exiting the building after this time must do so through the emergency room entrance. Security officers will contact your charge nurse to verify that you can receive visitors, and issue a pass that the after-hours visitor is required to wear.

Overnight Guest Information

Occasionally, you may desire to have someone stay overnight for support. Your nurse can make arrangements for bedding. Bringing personal bed linens is not permitted.

• Please note that guest meal trays cannot be provided free of charge or added to your patient bill. However, to-go meals may be purchased at the cafeteria and Atrium Café.
• Note: Children under 16 may visit with adults for a limited period of time, but may not spend the night.

Visitor Hours

In general, hours are not restricted, except on certain floors, unless a physician or patient restricts visitation. MBMC shall not restrict, limit or otherwise deny visitation privileges on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or disability. If you believe that your visitation rights have been violated, you should talk to your nurse, the nurse manager or the clinical director. If you feel the issue is not resolved, please contact Hospital Administration. Children are allowed to visit patients unless prohibited by the patient’s physician or the nurse determines it could adversely affect the visitor or the patient.

• Persons who are sick, including children, should not visit patients.
• All visitors should always follow any precaution signs posted on a patient’s door or ask the staff for help.

Visiting hours in specific areas are noted below:

Cardiovascular Recovery (CVR), Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), Advanced Intensive Care Unit (AICU), Progressive Care Unit (PCU)

Visiting Hours: 6:00-6:30 a.m.; 11:00-11:30 a.m.; 5:00-5:30 p.m.; and 8:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m. (individuals who are providing patient support will have access to the patient all day except 8:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m.).

Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

8:00 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.-6:30 a.m. Siblings age 2-12 may visit accompanied by a parent for 15 minutes, but only twice per 24 hours. Siblings who are 12 years old and older may come at any time with a parent.

Mother/Baby Unit

Sibling visitation is permitted from 9:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. when accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult.

Parking

Our free parking garage is available for both patients and visitors on the south side of the Medical Center behind the Medical Arts West building. For your convenience, the garage has two elevators and a covered walkway to the Medical Center.  Baptist for Women patients and visitors should park at the designated Baptist for Women area. Please do not leave valuables in your car. Baptist is not responsible for lost, damaged or stolen property. If you have difficulty walking, please call 601-968-1010 to request assistance from Baptist’s security officers, who will provide transportation to and from the parking garage.

Food Service

Cafe' 1225

Located on the first floor just off the main hospital lobby. Open to the public and hospital employees. Daily cafeteria hours are 6:15 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Chick-fil-A is also inside Cafe' 1225, open Monday-Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Atrium Café

Located in the Atrium and open seven days a week.

• Monday-Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. (Closed 9:00-9:30 p.m.)
• Saturday-Sunday: 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. (Closed 9:00-9:30 p.m.)

Java Junction Coffee Shop

Located in the Main Lobby

• Monday- Friday: 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
• Saturday-Sunday: 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Amenities and Services

Chaplains, Chapel Hours, Worship Services

Our hospital chaplains are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., to provide spiritual support during your stay. We also have a chaplain on call 24/7. In the case of emergency or crisis, please notify your nurse who will have a chaplain paged. You may also use the iTigr screen on your hospital room television to request a chaplain visit by selecting Hospital Chaplains and following the steps to request a visit during regular chaplain hours.

A chapel for meditation, prayer and worship is located on the first floor of the Medical Center near the administrative offices. It is open daily to patients and visitors from 6:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. Prayer rooms are also located on floors 3, 5 and 6.

Sunday morning worship services are conducted in the chapel at 8:00 a.m. each Sunday. A weekly morning prayer service is conducted in the chapel on Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. These services can be viewed from your hospital room on channel 25.

Gift Shop

The Gift Shop is located on the first floor and is stocked with a variety of items to brighten anyone's day. We update our inventory frequently to assure fresh choices and interesting gifts. And, you can call the Gift Shop to order gifts for hospital patients and have your gift delivered to their room on the same day with no delivery charge.

Baskets and gift bags are made to order in all price ranges. You can select from a variety of festive bags, cups, and bowls decorated with colorful tissue and ribbons. We are happy to help you select the perfect gift, too. We accept MasterCard, VISA and Discover.

Items include:

• An assortment of plants and fresh flowers ranging from $15 - $50
• A wide variety of gifts including books, Bibles, decorative items, candles, potpourri, jewelry, candy and much more
• Baby items such as door bows, baby books, banks, bath items, blankets and toys

Mail Services

Patient mail is delivered directly to your room. Mail received after discharge will be returned to sender.

Baptist Family Pharmacy

To help ease your transition from hospital to home, we offer an easy way to fill prescriptions prescribed by your doctor during your discharge from the hospital. The Baptist Family Pharmacy, located on the first floor of the hospital near the main elevators, is our onsite retail pharmacy where you may fill prescriptions before you leave the hospital to make it easier for you to get settled back at home after a hospitalization.

Baptist Family Pharmacy accepts most prescription medication insurance plans, and our pharmacists are always available to answer any questions you may have.

• Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• Sunday, 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Baptist Gift Shop has cell phone chargers available for purchase for most types of cell phones. If you need a cell phone charger while you or your family member is a patient, please stop by the Gift Shop.
