Vickie Gerrard, RN, CPHQ, serves as Baptist Medical Center’s director of Organizational Accreditation and Certification. She ensures Baptist meets Joint Commission requirements and also serves as a valuable resource to other hospitals, often referred as a contact by Joint Commission. Gerrard is a valuable asset to Baptist as she coordinates certifications and keeps us up-to-date on requirements.
Nearly forty years ago, Gerrard joined the Baptist team as a student nurse, and her entire nursing career has taken place here. She served as a staff RN on medical, surgical and neurology patient care units and a Joint Commission coordinator prior to her current director role. Letters of recognition resound with descriptions of her willingness to go “above and beyond” outside of her role and her normal working hours to welcome and assist others. An invaluable role model in her service to those in need, she participates in numerous Baptist-sponsored charitable events such as knitting hand-made items for cancer patients as part of the Knit Together group. She has also served on a lengthy list of committees including Baptist’s Clinical Improvement Committee, Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, Practice Council and Carry the Mission Agency Council.
In 2011, Gerrard was recognized by the Mississippi Business Journal as a Mississippi HealthCare Hero and received a bronze PATH pin for performance excellence at Baptist. The previous year, MSAHQ designated a grant in her name to recognize her contributions to the organization and healthcare quality community.
Coworkers submitted: “She does her job with grace and kindness, offering encouragement but stressing the need to be compliant because it is the right thing to do. She is one of the most professional, respected, engaged, committed and knowledgeable employees in Baptist and across the state. She always says I’ll do my best to help.”
As a role model, Gerrard truly deserves her designation as Baptist’s Caregiver of the Month. She and her husband have two daughters and a granddaughter as well as two dogs. Gerrard is a talented artist and her hobbies include smocking, ceramics and gardening. Her beautiful floral arrangements are often found gracing lobby desks.
