The Lung Basic screening is offered Monday through Friday by appointment at Baptist Medical Center. Call 601-948-6262 to schedule an appointment.

Your Lung Basic Screening

This screening is provided on the third floor of Baptist Medical Center in the Respiratory Therapy department.

During the screening, you will blow into a handheld device that measures how long and how hard you can blow air through your mouth. A respiratory therapist will monitor you and record your measurements. When you are finished, the respiratory therapist will compare your results to measurements expected for normal lung function.

The respiratory therapist will provide your results to you at the end of the screening, and discuss with you what your results mean. If you have any questions about your results, the respiratory therapist can answer your questions and help you decide your next steps.

If your results indicate a need for immediate follow up, the respiratory therapist will encourage you to follow up with your primary care physician. If you do not have a physician, the Baptist Health Line staff can help you with referral information. Contact the Baptist Health Line at 601-948-6262 to ask for this free service.
