You can approach your child's birth with more confidence once you know just what to expect during labor, delivery and recovery and during your hospital stay. This four-session class series will introduce the labor and delivery process including breathing and relaxation techniques, and give an overview of birthing, medication and anesthesia options. Recovery and post-partum care will be discussed, as well as Caesarean childbirth. A tour of the Birthplace is included. If interested please inquire about possible weekend classes.
This class will give you updated information on caring for your newborn during your first weeks at home. This includes bath and skin care, normal newborn behavior, safety, and general feeding instructions.* Suggested items to have on hand for your baby's care will also be discussed. In addition, routine tests and procedures for newborns during their hospital stay will be discussed.
*Note: Couples planning to breastfeed their babies should also attend the Breastfeeding class.
Breastfeeding is the most natural thing in the world for your new baby. So you and your baby can approach breastfeeding on the same terms, Maternal Newborn Educators discuss common concerns and breastfeeding techniques in this single-session program. The advantages of breastfeeding, pumping and storing milk, and breastfeeding on a working mother's schedule are other topics discussed.
This one session class teaches parents injury prevention and the correct CPR techniques for a new infant. This is a must for parents and others caring for your baby. There is a $5.00 charge for the instruction manual.
It may have been a long time since you cared for a baby as part of your daily routine. This one session class is designed to ease your mind and will cover changes in labor and delivery, a refresher on baby feeding and safety and a discussion of basic diplomacy for the newly extended family. Tours of The Birthplace are included.
A new baby changes everybody's life and everyone should have a chance to be prepared. Just for the three to ten-year-old in your family, The Birthplace presents a sibling movie, a tour of The Birthplace, a demonstration of diapering, feeding and holding an infant, and a discussion of family adjustments to the new baby.
The exercise of childbirth has been compared to world-class athletic competition. Mom and baby both win when Mom is in good physical condition. Through water aerobic classes offered by the Baptist Healthplex, expectant mothers can maintain their fitness level, and new mothers can speed the recovery process--safely. Classes are held Monday through Thursday and are available at Baptist Healthplex - Jackson. Participants should attend three classes a week to benefit from this program. A physician and patient release, found in the Natal Fit, brochure, must be signed prior to participating in Natal Fit.
