Perseverance
One who has overcome personal adversity

Emolyn Mary Norton

Nominated by Diane B. Chaffins

Diane says, “Emolyn came into my life thirty years ago when we both moved into the same neighborhood at the same time. Shortly after, at age 47, she was afflicted with a brain tumor. Removal of the tumor left her without balance or the ability to walk. She was told she would never walk again. Most people would have retired to a wheelchair and despaired. Not Emolyn. Determined to walk, she diligently tried every technique. Determined to continue with her life but not as an invalid, she prevailed. Everyone knows her. She is cheerful to all, never complaining, an encourager to all her friends, and in the thirty years I have known her not once has she said, “Why did this happen to me?” She brings sunlight and hope to all the lives she touches. Emolyn is now 75 years old. Through her faith in God, her will and determination, and with a cheerful spirit, she has overcome these adversities.”
