Ellen Lewis

Nominated by Albert Johnson

Albert says, “ During 2006, Ms. Lewis’s husband died after a long stay in the Intensive Care Unit at Baptist. While her husband was in the ICU, Ms. Lewis got involved with assisting ICU/CCU/CVS patients’ family members. She talked to, went shopping for, brought food, washed clothing, cared for children and even provided transportation and financial support to people she had never known until they were brought together in the ICU waiting room. After her husband died, Ms. Lewis founded a pastry shop in Florence that had leftover pastry on Saturdays and Sundays; so now every weekend she brings boxes of pastry to the waiting rooms for the patients’ families and hospital staff. Ms. Lewis also keeps in touch with patients’ families after their hospital stay; she is a very giving person. Not only does Ms. Lewis make weekly visits to the waiting rooms, she has her grown children assisting her.”
