The Birthplace Support Services is located on the ground floor of Baptist for Women. Within Support Services are:
The Newborn Clinic and the Synagis® Clinic
The Newborn Clinic
After being discharged from the hospital, you and your baby may be asked to return to Baptist for a Newborn Clinic visit before your first appointment with your selected pediatrician. Within a few days after discharge, babies are seen in the Newborn Clinic for any of the following concerns: jaundice, prematurity, breastfeeding concerns, weight follow-up or if the baby was discharged before 48 hours of age. A Newborn Clinic visit is an excellent opportunity to get all your baby questions answered once you and your baby have been home for a few days. A nurse will assess your baby, obtain appropriate history, measurements, lab data and discuss your baby with the on-call neonatologist. There is a charge for this visit which may or may not be covered by your insurance.
The Synagis® Clinic
The Synagis® Clinic provides convenient access for babies and young children who require the Synagis monoclonal antibody. This injection series is prescribed by pediatricians to help prevent respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infections during fall and winter.

Breast Pumps and Other Products
All Medela® breastpumps have Autocycle™ action to automatically create suck-release-relax cycles which duplicate, as nearly as possible, a baby's nursing action. This action provides the breast stimulation that is the key to sustaining and increasing lactation while pumping.
Let a Lactation Consultant or a Breastfeeding Educator at The Birthplace Support Services help you select the breastpump which is right for you. Call 601-292-4272 for information or an appointment.
Rental Pumps
Medela's Lactina® Select (hospital grade) electric breastpump rentals are available through your breastfeeding educators at Baptist by phoning 601-292-4272 to arrange an appointment. The Pedal Pump is also available for rental or purchase. The minimum rental period is one week. Reservations for breastpump rentals are accepted.
Each person renting a pump will need a personal washable kit for milk collection. The price for the kit is $50.00. If you already have a Medela® kit for milk collection, bring it with you to the appointment.
Pumps are returned to the breastpump rental station at The Birthplace Support Services. Any acount balance is due at the time of return. Please remove all plastic pieces and clean the pump prior to return.

Baptist for Women Gift Shop
The Baptist for Women Gift Shop, located in the lobby level of our new Baptist for Women facility, specializes in products for babies and moms. We have a variety of clothes for newborns, fresh flowers, stuffed animals, rings for mother and baby, and a host of other newborn products. You can conveniently pick up a wonderful gift for Mom and Baby before visiting them on our new Mother/Baby unit. Hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
