Minimally Invasive Surgeries of the Spine

:: Request a referral to a surgeon at Baptist.

Physicians at Baptist may use minimally invasive techniques to treat some conditions of the spine. One common condition that may be treated is sciatica—pain, usually in the lower back, buttocks or hip, produced when the sciatic nerve is compressed or inflamed.

To treat sciatica, physicians may use a minimally invasive technique called microscopic lumbar disectomy. In this procedure, surgeons make a small incision—usually no more than 1 inch—to remove the disk fragment which is pressing on the sciatic nerve.
