Patient Education Program Because of advancements in medical technology, the length of the hospital stay for joint replacement patients has decreased to an average of two to three nights. To make sure the patient and family members are fully prepared for the surgery, and know what to expect both before and after, Baptist offers a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary patient education program before surgery takes place. Both the patient and his or her selected “coach” participate in the program. The class is held at Baptist and is presented by a Program Care Coordinator, Physical Therapist, and Registered Nurses, all of whom are experienced in joint replacement care. The class is free of charge and limited in size for better patient learning. The topics discussed are pre-operative planning, surgery, the hospital stay, rehabilitation expectations, and discharge planning options. Each patient who attends the class receives a comprehensive orientation notebook that serves as an excellent resource before surgery and during the rehabilitation period. The orientation class is reserved for people who have a joint replacement surgery scheduled at Baptist Medical Center. Pre-registration is required. To register for a class, please call 601-948-6262. :: Next: Preparation for Surgery |
