Low Fat/Low Cholesterol Diet

General Guidelines:

  • Eat a variety of foods including fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

  • Limit intake of fat and cholesterol , especially saturated fat. (Saturated fats are generally the fats from animal products.)

  • Bake, broil, boil, roast or grill meats rather than fry or saute.

  • Choose
    Lean meats - round, sirloin, chuck, loin
    Poultry without skin
    Fish/shellfish
    Lean luncheon meats
    Low-fat cheese/fat-free milk

  • Avoid
    Fatty meats - ribs, t-bone, sausage, bacon
    Fried foods
    Processed meats
    Regular cheeses/whole milk

  • Limit egg yolks to 4 per week

  • Incorporate soy into diet (soy nuts, soy milk, soy cheese)
