Pearl High School is hosting the Fourth Annual Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, a basketball tournament benefiting fund for the girls on Saturday, December 9, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. at Pearl High School gymnasium. fund for the girls is Baptist Health Foundation’s initiative to raise funds to help people in need of breast health services who otherwise would not be able to afford them.
The tournament is the largest, single-day, girl's only event in the state of Mississippi. Twenty-eight high school teams across Mississippi, with at least 500 female high school athletes, will be playing to raise money benefiting fund for the girls. This will include games against some of Mississippi’s top ranked girls’ basketball teams such as the number one ranked Murrah High School and Clinton High School, ranked in the top 10.
Contributions raised help cover mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies and other breast health services at Baptist Medical Center. Since its establishment in 2012, fund for the girls has raised over $600,000 and helped over 1,200 people ranging in ages from 35 to 65 years old.
More than 100,000 Mississippi women age 40 and older didn’t get a mammogram last year because they didn’t have insurance and couldn’t afford it. Baptist Health Foundation supports the battle against breast cancer through fund for the girls. One hundred percent of contributions stay right here in the community to help provide breast cancer screenings and diagnostic testing for those who are unable to pay for the services. Recipients must meet clinical and fund guidelines.
