Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, Miss., announces Oncologist Van L. Lackey, MD, FACP, as the executive medical director of Baptist Cancer Services.
Dr. Lackey will be responsible for the oversight, development and execution of approved initiatives for Baptist Cancer Services. He will work closely with cancer staff, physicians and the cancer services' Physicians Advisory Council.
Dr. Lackey practiced at Jackson Oncology Associates and has served on the medical staff at area hospitals. He received an undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Ole Miss in Oxford and then attended the University of Mississippi Medical School in Jackson. He did an Internal Medicine Residency and then his Hematology-Oncology Fellowship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. During his last year he was an American Cancer Society Fellow.
He is Past President of the University of Mississippi Medical Alumni Association and also serves on their Board of Directors. Dr. Lackey belongs to numerous organizations including the MS State Medical Society, American Medical Association and the American Society of Hematology. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and serves on the Clinical Practice Committee. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and served as Governor for Mississippi. He received the Laureate award of the Mississippi Chapter, ACP-ASIM. He currently is the President of the MS Oncology Society.
He is also active in community service organizations. He is past President of the MS Division of the American Cancer Society and has been on the Board of Directors of The American Red Cross.
