Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center and Baptist Health Systems announce a joint venture to develop a fitness facility and sports performance center on the Baptist Madison Campus at the corner of Highway 463 and Highland Colony Parkway. Pending final approval of Baptist’s Board of Trustees, SouthStar, a commercial real estate development company, will begin construction in October 2012.
“A partnership like this between Baptist and Mississippi Sports Medicine will create a facility offering services unlike any other offered in this market,” added Baptist Health Systems President and CEO Mark Slyter.
The two story complex will be approximately 96,000 square feet and cost approximately $16 million. Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center will occupy clinical space in the facility and physical therapy services will also be provided. The Baptist Healthplex will include weight training and exercise rooms, plus a 6-lane indoor pool. The Mississippi Sports Medicine Sports Performance Center will offer sports specific training and strength and conditioning programs for all age athletes from youth through the professional level. The facility will include indoor and outdoor synthetic surface fields.
“We at Mississippi Sports Medicine are excited about this project. This facility is unique to the state of Mississippi and supports our Community Outreach Programs,” said Mississippi Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center Administrator Robert Lodes.
If construction begins in October, the facility is expected to take approximately one year to complete. It will be located just a few hundred feet North of the present Baptist Madison medical office building.
“We are excited about extending these health services to Madison,” said Slyter.
