Larry Calender came to work on 5N in August 2009 after his externship at Baptist. Co-workers noted he quickly became a strong part of the team and what type of care is expected for patients and their families. When his nurse manager rounds on patients, his name is mentioned in a positive way constantly. Calender receives frequent entries through the Reward and Recognition Program, and he proudly wears the Bronze pin he earned.
“Larry rounds in the morning with the doctors while his co-workers are getting prepared for the day,” said Nurse Manager Sherry Perry. “He will come in and assist when I ask, but if something comes up with his co-workers, he will always try to assist them too. Larry works well as charge nurse and preceptor as well as an active member on the 5N Unit Council’s team.”
Calender is now pursuing his BSN degree with higher education plans on the horizon. Reward and Recognition comments have stated that Calender shows compassion to visitors especially when they need help.
Co-workers added that he goes in patients’ rooms enthusiastically and takes pride in his work.
