New Students Graduate From Baptist’s School of Medical Technology

Jackson, Miss. - September 12, 2008 - Baptist’s School of Medical Technology offers a 12 month clinical program, which is accredited by The National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences. During their year of clinical education, students receive instruction in all phases of laboratory medicine including biochemistry, parasitology, mycology, bacteriology, immunochemistry, immunology/serology, urinalysis, coagulation, hematology, immunohematology, computer applications, client service operations, education and management.

Students are selected for admission to the school based on college performance, aptitude for medical technology, interest, motivation, character, health status and Mississippi residency. Recent graduates include Karla Reed from North East, PA; Laura Jarrett from Jackson; LaShanda Taylor from Jackson; D. M. Pawar from Braxton; and Kyle Rigdon from Enterprise.

Program Director for Baptist’s School of Medical Technology is Jennifer Knight, MHS, CLS (NCA), MT (ASCP). She said, “During their year of clinical education, students receive instruction in all phases of laboratory medicine. The clinical laboratory professional is a key member of today’s health care team. Laboratory professionals have the skills to unlock important medical information that is pivotal to the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease.”

Admission to Baptist’s program requires a cumulative grade point average of 2.70 and a 2.70 math/science GPA as well as successful completion of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Costs for the program are minimal. There is a $1000 fee that covers books and other essentials for the year-long program.
Knight added, “Job opportunities are abundant state and nationwide. Individuals with clinical laboratory science certification work in hospitals, physician offices and research laboratories, forensics, veterinary science, industrial facilities, instrument sales and service, marketing, education and management.”
