Jackson, Miss. – May 21, 2008 - A major construction event for the new tower has been reached with preparations under way to connect the new tower to the existing facility. There will be tie-ins on the 4th, 2nd, 1st floors and the Lower Level. On Thursday afternoon, May 22 at 5:00 p.m., our construction company will begin moving equipment into these areas.

Work will begin at 7:00 a.m. and conclude at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The tie-ins require cutting through solid concrete then jack-hammering to remove the cut pieces. The concrete pieces will then be moved to the lower level for disposal. There will be a lot of noise and continuous vibration all 4-days. During the day on Monday May 26, (Memorial Day) the construction areas will be cleaned and made ready for use on Tuesday, May 27. The holiday weekend was chosen so that a smaller number of people will be affected.

Baptist’s construction crews will be working between today, May 21, 2008, and Thursday putting dust walls in place in the tie-in areas. There will also be some noise on the tie-in floors while this is being done. Every effort has been made to relocate patients as far away from the work site as possible.

“We apologize in advance for the inconvenience this will cause. Earplugs are available for our patients and guests and will be distributed throughout the hospital, as needed each day,” said hospital Spokesman Robby Channell.
