Baptist Recognizes Local High School Athletes for Their Academic, Sports Achievements

Jackson, Miss. – May 2, 2006 - Baptist Health Systems hosted its 9th Annual Scholar-Athlete Luncheon at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum on Thursday, April 20, 2006. Each year, Baptist recognizes high school seniors from Hinds, Madison and Rankin Counties based on high academic and athletic achievement.

Callaway High School
Yakisha Partee – Yakisha has a 4.12 GPA and belongs to the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Who’s Who Among American High School Students, and the National Society for High School Scholars. Yakisha served as Co-captain of the tennis team, earning 3 letters, winning the division in singles and twice competing in State.

Terrence Barnes – Terrence is a High Honor Roll Student with a 3.0 GPA. A 3-year starter in football, Terrence earned 1st Team All District, 2nd Team All Metro, Best Offensive Player and Most Valuable Player honors.

Central Hinds Academy
Ericka Hammond – Ericka has a 4.0 GPA and belongs to the National Honor Society. She participates in soccer, track and basketball. In basketball, Ericka earned the Hustle Award and Best Defense Award. In Track, she picked up All District, All South State and MVP honors, while in soccer, she was named All State, All South State, and Best Defensive Player.

Jason Leist – Jason has a 4.1 GPA and is a member of Student Council, the National Honor Society, and FCA. Jason earned 4 letters in baseball and 3 letters in football, where he received the Cougar Award.

Florence High School
Blaire Bishoff – Blaire has a 3.8 GPA, is a member of Beta Club and earned the Good Citizenship Award. She was named Senior Team Leader for the Tennis Team and also lettered in Cross Country and Track at Florence High.

David Stewart - David carries a 3.9 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club. David participates in FCA and was twice named All District in Football. David also earned All Conference honors in Football, Basketball, and Baseball, and was named Most Versatile and Most Athletic.

Forest Hill High School
Lauren Morrow – Lauren participates in Student Council and has a 3.09 GPA. She serves as Senior Class Treasurer and Future Business Leaders Reporter at F.H. Lauren lettered 4 years in Track and Field, Basketball, and Softball, earning All Conference honors in basketball and softball.

Terrance Jones – Terrance is a National Honor Roll Student with a 3.57 GPA. He was named a Ventures Scholar, and is a member of the National Honor Society, Who’s Who, and Future Business Leaders of America. Terrance was named a WAPT Scholar Athlete and participates in basketball, Cross Country, and Soccer at Forest Hill.

Hillcrest Christian School
Tiffany Diamond – Tiffany is a member of the Student Council and the National Honor Society and has a 3.25 GPA. Tiffany lettered 4 years in Fastpitch softball, serving as Team Captain and earning All Star and All Conference honors

Charlie Herrington – Charlie is on the Headmaster’s List with a 3.8 GPA. He’s a member of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, the Quiz Bowl Team. Charlie earned the Eminent Scholar Award and the WAPT Scholar Athlete Award. In football, Charlie served as Team Captain, and earned All Conference and All State honors, and received the Cougar Award. He also participates in Track and Weightlifting.

Jackson Academy
Elizabeth Thomas – Elizabeth has a 3.8 GPA and belongs to the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Who’s Who. She’s also a member of the Young Republicans and serves as President of the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Mississippi Club. Elizabeth served as captain of the JA swim team and captain of the tennis team, winning titles in mixed and girls doubles.

William Foreman – William is an Eagle Scout, has a 3.6 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta. He’s participated 6 years in tennis, earning the Raider Award, Most Improved Player, and several titles in his career.

Jackson Prep
Hannah Flint – Hannah has a 4.1 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Who’s Who, and Student Government. She earned the Academic Excellence Award and was selected for the McDonnell-Barksdale Honors College. Hannah earned 3 letters in basketball, making the DIV 1 All Tourney Team, and twice earning the Hustle Award. She lettered 3 years in Cheerleading, and 2 in Track, finishing 1st in the AAA High Jump.

Les Triplett – Les is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and carries a 3.9 GPA. Les served as Team Captain for football team at Prep, earning the LaCoste Academic Award.

Jim Hill High School
Daniela Pimentel – Daniela has a 3.38 GPA and earned the Student Athlete Award at Jim Hill. She is a member of the Drill Team, the Saber Team, and earned the Award for Outstanding Achievement in JROTC. Daniela earned 1 letter in Track and 4 letters in Tennis for the City Champs. She also picked up MVP honors in XC, Soccer and Tennis in her career.

Timotheus Jones – Timotheus carries a 3.4 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society and International Baccalaureate Program.Timotheus lettered in baseball and served as Team Captain for the Football and Soccer teams.

Madison Central High School
Ashlee Curtis – Ashlee has a 99 avg , participates in Student Government, and is President of the FCA at Madison Central. She earned 6 letters in soccer, making All Star as a Senior and twice earning All State honors. In basketball, Ashlee made the All County and All Tournament Team.

Mason Ruhl – Mason is a National Merit Finalist with a 95 avg. He participates in Student Government and belongs to Beta Club and Mu Alpha Theta. Mason participated in Soccer and was a member of the Jaguars State Championship basketball team as a Senior.

Madison Ridgeland Academy
Kristen Tutor – Kristen was elected Class Favorite and has a 3.5 GPA.
She’s a member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta and was selected Most Talented. Kristen earned letters in track and softball, and earned MVP, Best Defensive Player, All Conference and All Tournament honors in basketball.

Samuel Bolen – Samuel has a 4.0 GPA and belongs to Young Life, FCA, Mu Alpha Theta, and the National Honor Society. In basketball, Samuel was 1st team All MPSA, 1st Team All Madison County, and twice earned South AAA MVP honors.

Murrah High School
Portia Boyd - Portia has a 3.54 GPA and belongs to the National Honor Society, Who’s Who, and Youth Council. Portia earned Best Defensive Player and Highest Academic Average for the Lady Mustangs basketball team and in track, was a member of the state champion 1600 meter relay team.

Ford Stevens – Ford has a 4.61 GPA belongs to the National Honor Society and was nominated for Wendy’s High School Heisman. Ford lettered in baseball at Murrah and earned the Clarion Ledger All Star Award ad the Clarion Ledger Player of the Week honors.

Northwest Rankin Attendance Center
Erin Wiggers – Erin has a 4.23 GPA, and was selected for the NW Rankin Hall of Fame. She’s a member of the National Honor Society, Who’s Who, Mu Alpha Theta, Beta Club, Student Government and participates in FCA. Erin served as captain for the SlowPitch and Fastpitch Softball teams, earning Highest Batting Average , All District 2nd team, and Most Valuable Defensive Player Honors along the way.

Chad Byrd – Chad has 4.0 GPA, served as Senior Class President and was also inducted to the Hall of Fame for the 2006 Class. He was selected Most Talented and Class Favorite and was a member Who’s Who Among American High School Students and the National Honor Society. Earning 3 letters in football, Chad played for teams with a combined record of 29-9, the best run in school history.

Pearl High School
Karen Taylor – Karen is an Honor Roll Student with a 3.9 GPA. She’s a member of the National Honor Society, the Mayor’s Youth Council, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Future Business Leaders of America. Karen is a standout in Cross Country and Track and Field at Pearl High. Among her honors are All State, All-District for 4 years, MAC 2nd Team, and she received the All State Heart of a Champion Award, and the Most Valuable Athlete Award..

Nick Gullette – Nick has a 3.84 GPA, was selected to the Pearl High Hall of Fame, and earned the U.S. Achievement Academy 2004 National Award. He is a member of Beta Club, the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Mayor’s Youth Council and Future Business Leaders of America. Nick lettered 4 years in track, earning 2 State Championships and the Most Outstanding Field Athlete Award.

Provine High School
Deanna Dixon – Deanna was named Miss Provine and has a 3.8 GPA. She’s a member of Who’s Who, Mu Alpha Theta, the National Honor Society, and was nominated for Wendy’s High School Heisman. Deanna played for the Lady Rams softball and basketball teams, where she served as Co Captain.

Cason Burk – Cason has a 3.92 GPA and was voted Most Likely to Succeed. He’s a member of the Student Council, the National Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta and received the JROTC Cadet of the Year Award. Cason served as Team Captain of the basketball team, earning Most Versatile, Best Defense, and the Most Assists awards.

Ridgeland High School
Farryl Franklin – Farryl carries a 3.8 GPA and belongs to Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Spanish Honor Society. She’s a 3 year member of the Titans award- winning cheerleading squad.

Shelby Robertson - Shelby has a 3.6 GPA and participates in FCA and the Big Brother/Big Sister Mentoring Program. He earned 4 letters in baseball and was named to the Clarion Ledger Top Seniors to Watch list. Shelby also lettered a year in football, earning All Division and 2nd team 4A All State honors.

St. Andrews Episcopal School
Eleanore Hanlon – Eleanore has a 3.9 GPA, is a member of the National Honor Society, the Student Admissions Team and earned the Millsaps Book Award. Eleanore lettered 6 years in softball earning Best Defensive Player, Most Valuable Player, All District, All State, and All Star honors. In basketball, she earned 4 letters, picking up All District and All County honors as well as the Most Improved Player, Best Defensive Player, and Best Offensive Player Award in her career.

Joseph Lightsey – Joseph was selected Mr. St. Andrews and Senior Class Vice President and has a 4.0 GPA. He’s a member of the National Honor Society and participates in FCA. Joseph played 5 years on the golf team, earning MVP honors as a Sophomore and 4 years on the soccer team, including a State Championship as a Senior.

St. Joseph Catholic School
Elisabeth Geimer– Elisabeth has a 97. 48 average and served as Senior Class Vice President. She’s a member of the Mu Alpha Theta, Who’s Who, the National Honor Society, and the YMCA Youth Legislature. Elisabeth lettered 6 years in soccer and Cross Country and two in Softball. As a member of the State Champs in soccer, she earned All-State honors and was selected to the MAC All Star Team. Elisabeth was also named Most Athletic, Who’s Who in Sports, and selected as a MHSAA Women’s Scholar Athlete.

Jacob Lawrence – Jacob is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, the Service Club and has a 95 average at St. Joe. He lettered in football, earning All District Honors, and in Soccer, was named All Star, earned 2nd Team All State, MVP in 04, and was a member of the 1,2,3A State Champs.

Tri-County Academy
Lauren Saxton – With a 3.2 GPA, Lauren is a member of Student Council and participated in the Academic Betterment Competition. Lauren was named Rebel Girl and has participated in Softball, Track and Basketball at Tri-County.

Cameron Renicker – Cameron is an Honor Roll Student with a 3.36 GPA. He’s a member of Student Council, the National Honor Society, and participated in the Academic Betterment Competition. Cameron lettered for the Rebel football, basketball, and track teams at Tri-County.

University Christian School
Casey Jenkins – Casey has a 3.84 GPA and earned the Presidents Education Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence. She participates in Student Government, FCA, and was named Who’s Who, Class Favorite, and Sophomore Class President. Casey has participated in basketball, track, cheerleading and served as was captain of the swim team.

Josh Joyner – Josh has a 3.5 GPA and serves as Senior Class President. He’s a member of the Beta Club, Who’s Who, the National Society for High School Scholars, Student Council and the National Honor Society. Josh picked up All District honors and served as Team Captain of the basketball and football teams and also participated in baseball in track. He also earned the Coach’s Award and Best Offensive Player Awards in basketball.

The Veritas School
Sarah Story – Sarah was a Wendy’s High School Heisman Finalist and has a 3.97 GPA. She’s a member of the National Honor Society and Student Government and was named a WAPT 16 Scholar Athlete. Sarah earned All State honors in XC, All Conference in Softball and also lettered 3 years in Track.

Wingfield High School
Antrice Walker – Antrice serves as Student Body President, carries a 3.82 GPA, and was selected to the Hall of Fame. She’s a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and the Academic Team. Antrice was also selected Homecoming Queen, earned the Scholastic Award and participated in basketball at Wingfield.

Brandon Jackson – Brandon has a 3.46 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society, Who’s Who, and the Challenge Bowl Team. Brandon lettered in baseball and participates in band at Wingfield High.
