Jackson, Miss. – May 31, 2006 - Baptist Medical Center, a division of Baptist Health Systems in Jackson, Miss., is working with Information & Quality Healthcare (IQH), the Medicare Quality Improvement Organization for Mississippi, on a national initiative to improve quality of care for the Medicare population, known as the Appropriate Care Measure Project, which includes the clinical areas of acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care infection prevention.

Baptist has also been selected as a member of the IQH Identified Participant Group (IPG) for the Systems Improvement and Organizational Culture Change Project. During the next two years, Baptist will be involved in a collaborative effort with other hospitals working on the projects. Hospitals in the collaborative will share interventions and practices.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicare Services, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, works through IQH to provide hospitals with information and tools to improve health care in the selected clinical areas for the Medicare population.

For more information on Baptist’s participation in the projects, contact Karlene Cooper, RN in the Resource Management Department at 601-968-1333.
