Jackson, Miss. – June 20, 2006 - For twelve consecutive years, Baptist has teamed up with Habitat and Trustmark Bank to construct a house in the midtown area (inner city) of Jackson. This year was an extraordinary build though; it was the 1,000th Habitat house to be built in Mississippi.

For 22 years, Habitat for Humanity has been building homes in Mississippi. Habitat is a Christian organization whose purpose is to build and sell decent, affordable housing at no profit and no interest to families who need better housing. Baptist and other organizations partner with Habitat to make a difference in the neighborhoods of inner city Jackson. The Pastoral Care Department of Baptist views the covenant relationship with Habitat as a means of ministering to a community with great needs. Through such a project as Habitat, tangible expression is given to our Christian mission.

The home was constructed May 21—May 26, 2006 and was built for Mary Alice Henley, her daughter and two grandchildren.
