November 8 - Baptist Now Treating Lung Tumors with Cyberknife®
Radiation oncologist Gregg Dickerson, M.D. treated the hospital's first lung case with the CyberKnife. Baptist's system is one of only 17 facilities in the world equipped with Synchrony, the equipment and software used with the CyberKnife making the kind of treatment this patient received possible. :: back to top

October 11 - Baptist Labor & Delivery Nurses Put All Their Hearts into Certification Program
All nurses in Baptist's Labor and Delivery Department have been certified in the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses Fetal Heart Monitoring Principles and Practices program. This allows Baptist nurses to monitor if a baby is experiencing fetal distress, and how well the baby is tolerating the mother’s contractions. :: back to top

March 3 - Medicare Expands Reimbursement for Implanted Defibrillators, Baptist Cardiologists Focus on Prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death
Results from a recent study indicated a 23 percent reduction in death among trial participants with implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) compared to those who did not receive defibrillators. Medicare said it intends to increase the Medicare beneficiaries eligible for ICDs based on the study. Baptist Medical Center cardiologists Robert Andrew Pickett, M.D., and Douglas Wolfe, M.D., are two of only seven board certified electrophysiologists in Mississippi, physicians who specialize in treating arrhythmias and preventing sudden cardiac death. :: back to top
