C. Gerald Cotton receives ACHE Regent's Award

Jackson, Miss. – July 19, 2005 - C. Gerald Cotton, executive vice president of Mississippi Baptist Health Systems in Jackson, recently received the American College of Healthcare Executives Senior-Level Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award during the Mississippi Hospital Association’s annual Leadership Conference.

The award was bestowed on Cotton by Edward L. Foster, CHE, the College’s Regent for Mississippi and President/Chief Executive Officer of MHA Solutions, a subsidiary of the hospital association. The Senior-Level Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award recognizes ACHE affiliates who are experienced in the field and have significantly contributed toward the advancement of health care management excellence and the achievement of the goals of ACHE.

Affiliates are evaluated on leadership ability, innovative and creative management, executive capability in developing their own organization and promoting its growth and stature in the community, contributions to the development of others in the health care profession, leadership in local, state or provincial hospital and health association activities, participation in civic/community activities and projects, and participation in College activities and interest in assisting the College in achieving its objectives.

Cotton has served as executive vice president at MBHS since 1997 and has been employed with the system since 1989. He has over 40 years of experience in the health care field.

Cotton holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Mississippi State University and a Master’s degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Healthcare Administration. He is a member of the American College of Hospital Administrators and past chairman of the Mississippi Hospital Association Board of Governors.
