Baptist Adult Day Celebrates Daisy Reddix's 103rd Birthday

Jackson, Miss. - April 17, 2003 -- Baptist Adult Day Health Services - Northtown saluted Daisy Reddix on her 103 rd birthday on April 10, 2003. Special guests included her only child, Shirley Vanderpool and about 40 of her adult daycare friends. While the clients sang "Happy Birthday," the facility staff presented Reddix with a dozen roses, a spray of festive balloons, and a birthday cake topped with candles.

Reddix was born April 10, 1900 in Jamaica where her father grew coffee beans on the side of the mountain. Her late husband, Dr. Jacob Reddix, served as the first President of Jackson State University under the state's administration for 27 years. Her husband's portrait will be unveiled at the Old Capitol on May 9, 2003 for the "Mississippi Hall of Fame."

She was the youngest of 12 children. After her mother died, she came with a cousin to America at the age of 19. She obtained her high school diploma and her citizenship. She met her future husband when she was 20 years young, and they courted for 8 years.

Reddix obtained her BA degree at JSU and worked in their business office. She now resides with her only child in Jackson, Miss. She also has one granddaughter and two great-grandsons who all live in Ohio.
Her interests included being a master seamstress, working on ceramics, church and reading. Reddix has been attending Baptist Adult Day Health Services - Northtown since October 2002. She comments with a smile that it is a lovely place to attend for social activities and that everyone is very nice.
