Baptist to Receive Quality Award

Jackson, Miss. -- January 8, 2003 -- Baptist Medical Center is one of twelve organizations from throughout the state being honored in the 2002 Mississippi Quality Awards program. Awards are presented for achievements in applying the principles of continuous improvement toward achieving performance excellence.

The Excellence Award will be presented to Baptist Medical Center at the Mississippi Quality Awards ceremony, scheduled for March 21, at Hilton Hotel.

"We are honored to receive this award, especially since this is our time to submit an application," said Eddie James, director of Facility Operations & Performance Improvement. "This recognition shows that Baptist is headed in the right direction in offering quality service to our patients, physicians, staff and the community. It takes a lot of people working together to enable us to achieve this honor."

The four award levels in the program serve as steps to guide organizations already involved in continuous improvement programs to assess their capabilities and achievements in performance excellence. All award criteria are based on the Baldrige National Quality Awards.

The Mississippi Quality Award program was created through the Mississippi Workforce Education Act of 1994 to encourage business and industry to commit to the pursuit of excellence and the competitive edge that will assure major growth. The program is administered through the Mississippi State Board for Community and Junior Colleges.
