Neurosurgeons DeMeira and Jones Join Baptist

Jackson, Miss. - June 6, 2003 -- Baptist Medical Center is pleased to announce neurosurgeons Moses Jones, MD and Elio D. DeMeira, MD, who began practice in Jackson May 1 as Jackson Neurosurgery & Spine Associates, have joined Baptist's medical staff. Their practice is located in Suite 204 of the Colonnades medical office building. Both physicians relocated to Jackson from Erie, Pennsylvania.

"Drs. Jones and DeMeira bring a lot of experience and excellent track records in spinal and intracranial procedures to Baptist," said Baptist's Chief Medical Officer Eric McVey, MD. "They are committed to provide the full coverage the medical staff needs to care for their patients quickly and effectively."

Dr. Jones received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine, and completed his surgical internship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He completed his residency in neurosurgery at New York University - Bellevue Hospital Center and at Kansas University Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

A fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, Dr. Jones has practiced as a neurosurgeon since 1979. He has served on the staff of DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, AL, including a one-year stint as Chief of Surgery. Most recently, he has practiced at Saint Vincent Neurological Surgery in Erie.

Dr. Jones and his wife, Rita, have three children - Raphael, Raquel and Ellen Paige.

Dr. DeMeira earned his medical degree from University of Santa Maria Faculty of Medicine in Santa Maria, Brazil. He completed a surgical internship at Watts Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, followed by his neurosurgery residency at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
A fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a diplomate of the American Board of Neurological Surgeons, Dr. DeMeira has practiced at the Hospital de Cecade in Passo Fundo, Brazil; at the Horizon Hospital System in Greenville, Penn.; and most recently at Saint Vincent Health Center in Erie, Penn., where he has served as the Neurosurgery Section Leader.

Dr. DeMeira and his wife, Margarete, have two children - Augusto and Camile.
