Six-Week Cancer Support Group for Patients With All Types of Cancer Begins February 20, 2003

Jackson, Miss. - February 10, 2003 -- Baptist Cancer Services will begin a six week cancer support group meeting for patients diagnosed with any type of cancer on February 20, 2003 until March 27, 2003. The classes will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the Activities Room of Baptist's Hederman Cancer Center located at 1227 North State Street in Jackson.

C. Bufkin Moore, Psy.D. will facilitate the group and provide a supportive, caring environment for patients adjusting to a cancer diagnosis. Additionally, the group will discuss the two most prevalent psychological problems faced by cancer patients: anxiety and depression.

"We believe that there is a significant need to provide this type of service for the patients who are diagnosed with cancer, actively being treated or are in remission," said Dr. Moore. "Studies show that a significant number of patients with cancer may experience concurrent psychological distress, such as depression and anxiety, which can complicate medical treatment and place additional stress on caregivers."

The sessions are free. For more information contact the Baptist Health Line at 1-800-948-6262 or 948-6262. For a complete listing of Baptist Cancer Services support group meetings, visit the events calendar section of Baptist's website.
